Links to Original and Curated Content on Social Media

Domain authority is the clout your website has due to the content you post and the website visits you garner from it. One of the most important aspects of this is backlinks, or links to your website from other (reputable) websites When people visit your site, then stay on it, your domain authority increases. When people share, interact with, link to, and return to your site, you get incremental “bonus points” from search engines like Google.

While domain authority is not used by Google to decide how to rank your website posts and pages on the search engine results pages (SERPs), it can give you a good way to rate yourself compared to your competitors. It will also give you a way to measure what the chances are that you’ll rank for certain content on the SERPs.

But what happens when you post your original content on social media instead of your own website? If you write the majority of your original content as social media posts, you are missing out on a big piece of the content marketing pie.

Best practice for increasing your domain authority along with your traffic:

  • Post your content on your website
  • Link those posts to your social media accounts
  • Add in curated content (posts written by others) on your social media channels
  • Guest write content for others
  • Link your guest posts to both your webiste (with the correct href tags to direct to the orginal post) and your social media account

It’s a great idea to be an engaged and active user on social media, but it can get overwhelming to keep up with multiple channels. One way to keep it manageable for small business owners is to pick 2 platforms that most closely alilgn with your customer base, then focus your efforts and time on those.

Write high-quality content for your own website blogs, then share out to your channels, which brings people back to your website where they can find a big, easy buy button to close the deal with you.
